Heating bitumen is a complex, energy-intensive process. In addition to external factors (air temperature, wind speed, precipitation) and current operating conditions (initial/final heating temperatures, tank filling factor, specified heating time, etc.), the heating process is determined by the parameters of the process equipment, such as thermal power and efficiency of heating units, heat-transfer surface area and configuration of heating elements, speed of movement, temperature and flow rate of the coolant, as well as the heat balance of the heating system.

The tasks of energy calculations for heating systems using heat carriers (thermal oil, steam, air) include:
- calculation of bitumen heating time taking into account actual power of the heat generating unit, parameters of heating elements (coils) and coolant transportation system;
- selection of the area of heating registers, choice of pipeline diameter and coolant flow rate taking into account the thermal power of the primary energy carrier converter (thermal oil heater, steam generator, etc.);
- calculation of the required power of the coolant heater taking into account the bitumen equipment technological operating mode (heating time, operation in temperature maintenance mode, etc.).
Based on energy calculations, we will develop recommendations for the configuration of oil registers and steam coils (sketch design of heating elements) in order to ensure the most efficient operation of the hydraulic system. "BitumTech" specialists develop projects for metal structures of heating elements of on-ground and pit bitumen storage facilities and tanks.
As part of the design of electric heating elements, following calculations are made:
- calculation of electrical power of bitumen heaters taking into account the required time and temperature conditions of heating, the state of thermal insulation of process equipment and external factors;
- required heating time taking into account the actual thermal power of the electric heating elements, their location and configuration.
