Study of bitumen thermal fields in the pit-type bitumen storage facility. The studies have revealed inefficiency of the use of bottom chutes (conventional arrangement) in pit-type storage facilities due to intake of the least heated-up and the most water-flooded bitumen. Detailed information on the study may be found in the Highlights section. Recommendations on reduction of energy costs and moisture content in bitumen upon intake from the main section and the pit by means of the use of multi-section gate valves were developed for the facility. A set of detailed drawings was worked out.
