The design of the pit-type bitumen storage facility with the capacity of 500 cub.m with the electric bitumen heating system in the main bay and the pit was developed. Construction was carried out by the plant under the experts’ supervision. One of the features of the storage facility was the central location of the pit that helped reduce energy costs for compensation of heat loss substantially – the loss from the cylindrical pit walls were used for preliminary heating of bitumen in the main bay (up to the flow point). This ensured that the heating elements of the main bay were switched on in the initial period of the storage operation only (early spring), later on their use was not needed.
